Our client for this UK removal service was Vicki Aver, a London native looking to leave her life in the Big Smoke for the greener fields of Woodhouse Eaves, a village near Loughborough in Leicestershire. The move from London would see her living closer to her daughter and grandchildren after a lifetime of living in South London.
Having lived in her home in Barnes for the last 32 years, Ms. Aver needed support in moving a number of large and fragile items, including china, glass and ornaments – and one very heavy statue! To do so, she chose to work with our removals team, and selected our part packing service. Whilst Ms. Aver handled the packing of non-breakable items, such as her linens and books, we were trusted to prepare and pack her more delicate belongings, including her fine china and wax canvas art, which require special care during transportation.
Once her belongings had been packed, we moved and unpacked everything to her new home in Woodhouse Eaves, ready for her new start.
Moving Day Arrives!
Once our London removals team arrived at Ms. Aver’s home in Barnes, we got to work with our packing services. Included in our itinerary was the preparation of a very large statue of the Roman God Mercury, the God of speed, which took pride of place in the garden. Such a heavy statue required extreme care during transportation, and our team was able to wrap, pack, and escort him safely to his new home!
Other items that required special attention included a mirror in the living room, which needed an extra jiffy wrap to ensure its safety and protection during transit. Additionally, there were some light fittings to be moved. Prior to the arrival of our team, Ms. Aver had already arranged for an electrician to disconnect them, which sped up the process. We were also asked to help dismantle a king-size bed before loading it onto our vans.
Not all of the items in the house were set to make the journey to Leicestershire, however. So, to ensure nothing was taken by mistake, we sent some “Not To Go” labels to Ms. Aver, so the items remaining in the house could be clearly marked.
Access to the property was also potentially problematic. The packed volume of Ms. Aver’s belongings was 1400 cubic feet, and there was no way to manoeuvre a van this large on her narrow street – particularly as cars were parked on either side of the road. Instead, we loaded her items onto two smaller transit vans, which made several trips to our warehouse yard in Southall to be loaded onto a larger vehicle more suitable for the journey across the country. It was necessary to obtain resident’s parking dispensation so that our transit vans could park outside to Ms. Aver’s property without receiving parking fines. To minimise the moving day stress for Ms. Aver, GB Liners handled this, booking the parking directly with Richmond Borough Council.
The property in London was packed and loaded onto our full-sized shipping van, driven down from our Loughborough depot to make the collection. on the 12th of July. On the 13th, Ms. Aver gained access to her new property, had the carpets fitted and her new home cleaned, ready for our delivery on Friday, July 14th. As the move took place during our busiest time of year, the delay between collection and delivery ended up working out well for both us and Ms Aver.
The Outcome
With the entire relocation process taking only two days, Ms Aver was able to enjoy settling into her new home, ready for the weekend!
“The GB Liners team was fantastic. Items that I thought would be very difficult just sailed out of the doors. The crew was lovely. James, the removal surveyor, was a star, and I have forgiven him for losing his tape measure in my house – though I still haven’t found it!”
Vicki Aver
With all items safely arriving at the destination and unpacked with care, our work was complete.
