FAQ’s

Hopefully most of the questions you have regarding moving will be covered below, but please do get in touch with one of our team if there is anything you are still not sure about.

GB LINERS SERVICE

We can offer various options to suit you, but typically, there are three; full packing, partial packing and self packing. We can also dismantle/reassemble basic furniture, remove curtains, bring down loft contents and build bespoke wooden crates for precious/delicate items.

All of our team members are employed by GB Liners. We do not employ agency staff, which ensures we can keep control over proceedings. With an international move, we have a worldwide network of agents, many of whom we have long standing relationships with.

There are a number of reasons why you should choose GB Liners to handle your move. We are a third generation family business established in 1923 by our current Managing Director’s grandfather. All of our team have the option to become shareholders within our business and are trained at our in-house training school. Throughout our 11 offices, we cover the whole of the UK and we are big enough to cope, but small enough to care.

QUOTATIONS

Moving can be stressful. We would therefore advise arranging a quotation sooner rather than later, so that you are in a position to book once your date is confirmed. We would suggest organising this at least one month before you are due to move.

There are multiple ways to do so. The easiest way is to request a call back or book a video survey directly through our website. Alternatively, you can phone your local branch and speak to one of our move coordinators.

There are two options. A physical survey, where one of our removal consultants visits your home to carry out the assessment, or a video survey, where the assessment is made via a video call.

Once the survey has been completed, your removal consultant will advise when the quotation will be sent to you, which is normally within 24 hours. International quotes will typically take longer than this.

STORAGE

Yes. GB Liners have containerised storage at each of our 11 UK locations. Your home contents are packed into specially constructed wooden containers and a full inventory is made. They are then closed up in your presence, before being transported back to our warehouse. We also offer self-storage at some of our UK locations, whereby you can rent different sized units on a long or short term basis.

Yes. All of our warehouses are fully alarmed and have a police response time, so if the alarm is set off and we do not turn it off within a certain amount of time, the police are notified.

The price of storage varies depending on how much you have to store, the total value of what you are storing and the length of time you will be in storage. We will be able to give you a guide price over the phone and during the survey, but our final price will be detailed on our quotation.

COST, PAYMENT AND COVER

There are a number of variables that determine the overall price; volume of your goods, level of service required, amount of cover, distance and time of year to name some. We will be able to give you a guide price over the phone and during the survey, but our final price will be detailed on our quotation.

GB Liners can cover your goods against loss and damage both during your move and whilst in storage. We can cover your belongings up to an amount chosen by you. We will ask you for a valuation of your goods during the pre-move survey, and we usually say to refer to your home contents insurance if you are unsure of the amount. It is important to note that we do not sell a separate insurance contract.

Payment is due in full upon booking. For bookings made well in advance, we will sometimes accept a deposit and then the balance 10 working days before the start of your move. Payment can be made directly into our bank or over the phone with a Debit card.

If you postpone or cancel a firm booking then we reserve the right to charge the following according to how much notice is given. More than 10 working days – no charge. Between 5 and 10 working days – not more than 30% of the removal charge. Less than 5 working days – not more than 60% of the removal charge. Within 24 hours – not more than 75% of the removal charge. On the day or after work commences – 100% of our charges.

PACKING MATERIALS

We can supply packing materials for customers that wish to pack themselves and the cost of these can be included within our quotation. Customers not moving with GB Liners are also welcome to purchase our packing materials.

It is up to you when you want boxes and packing materials delivered. Providing we have a signed acceptance on file, and payment for the materials, we can deliver them as far in advance as you like.

We will collect our own used materials post move, providing they are flat packed and in good condition. Collection may be delayed or impossible to do where the destination is a long way from our depots. We will re-use boxes until they are no longer in good working condition, at which point they will be recycled.

REMOVAL VEHICLES

We have a variety of different sized vans. This ranges from a specialist road train (a lorry with a trailer) some 18 metres long, through 18 tonne removal vans, to transit vans. We have vehicles fit for every move.

If you are moving to or from somewhere with restricted access for a large vehicle, we would use a smaller vehicle to tranship your belongings on or off a larger one. We can also arrange to suspend parking if you live on a road which requires a parking permit.

If your removal requires more than one day to complete and subsequently your goods need to stay on our vehicle overnight, the doors will be locked and our van(s) kept at our depot behind locked gates. If your move requires an overnight trip, our crews will find a suitable and secure location for parking an HGV and they will sleep in the purpose built sleeper pods above the cab of the van.

GENERAL

There is no timescale we can give apart from as much as possible, but typically, if you can provide 3 weeks’ notice, then that should suffice. We have a national network of branches, so even if your local branch is full, we will work with our other branches to try and get your move covered.

We can work on Saturdays, but there would be a surcharge as our crews get paid overtime for working on a weekend. Sundays and Bank Holidays are by special arrangements.

The easiest way is to first call the office who you have been corresponding with throughout the process. We will then ask you to complete and return our acceptance form in order to confirm your booking.

Yes, depending on where you are moving as restrictions apply for certain countries. Typically, we can move non-perishable food and alcohol within the UK. If you are moving locally, then we can also move fridge and freezer contents, but we would advise running these down as much as possible before the move.

Yes, the summer months, school holidays and the lead up to Christmas are typically our busiest times of the year.

OTHER

Yes, we can handle door-to-door removals to most overseas locations.

This depends on a number of variables, such as level of service, volume, distance and so on. If you are moving locally then typically 1-3 days, but if you are moving to the other side of the world then it could be up to 16 weeks for your goods to arrive.

We can essentially move you from anywhere to anywhere.

We would be more than happy to provide a quotation, even if you are not moving a full household. We regularly carry out moves on a part load basis for customers who only have a small amount to move.

Yes. It is not the core of our business but we do have the ability to move offices. We can arrange for specialist office crates to be delivered before the move, and collected after the move, to ensure all of your office equipment is moved in the safest possible way.
