HANDLING YOUR MOVE EUROPEAN MOVE

We use our own employees and vehicles to carry out your move to or from Europe, so you can relax knowing that the team handling the collection and delivery will be our own trained team members. We will still be able to handle your move if you are moving to any major city or from somewhere a little bit off the beaten track, as we work with trusted partners who we have built relationships with over a number of years. Nowhere is too much trouble.

European CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

We arrange full Customs clearance for both moves to and from Europe, and the cost of this will always be included within our quotation. Our team will advise you of the documents we will require for a smooth clearance and an information sheet on this will be provided at the quoting stage.

TRANSFER OF RESIDENCE (ToR) FOR MOVES INTO THE UK

If you move to the UK, you will need to apply for a transfer of residence to make your household goods tax-free. It’s important to start this process as soon as you start your move, as it can take weeks to make a decision during peak moving season.

Once approved, you will receive a Unique Reference Number (URN) that must be shared with our team. If you have problems with this process, you can contact the TOR hotline on 0300 322 9434 (option 3 and then option 4).

TRANSFER OF RESIDENCE

DO NOT QUALIFY FOR ToR?

If you don’t qualify for transfer of residence, don’t panic, you can still move to the UK, but you may have to pay duty and VAT on your household items. The approximate cost is usually 30-40% of the used value of your items.

The length of time required from the collection of items to delivery can vary depending on the work involved and your specific requirements. For Europe-wide removals where goods need to remain on the vehicle overnight, rest assured your belongings will be secure. In most cases when moving to or from Europe, an overnight trip is required. As such, all our vans are equipped with sleeper pods above the cabin, and our crew will find a suitable, safe location to park, lock up, and rest.

Moving consumable items as part of your house move within the EU will depend on the laws, regulations and restrictions of the destination country, and Duty and Tax is likely to be payable. If you require this, check the corresponding country page for more information, or reach out to our team to discuss your options.

At GB Liners, we have a network of branches covering the UK, allowing us the flexibility to schedule your European move if we have the availability. That said, we advise you to give us as much notice as possible, particularly in the Summer as our peak season, and reach out to our team before signing binding contracts with fixed move-out dates to ensure we can help you with your move when you need us.
